  • RATED: R
  • OPINION STARS: 3.5 out of 5
  • THIS FILM IS: Intense, Gritty, Dark
DESCRIPTION: When two scientists – Charlie Holloway (Marshall-Greene) and Elizabeth Shaw (Rapace) – discover clues to the origins of mankind, they pull together a special team to investigate their findings.
  • VIOLENCE & GORE: 9/10
  • FRIGHTENING CONTENT: 8/10
  • FOUL LANGUAGE: 7/10
  • MATURE THEMES: 7/10
  • SEXUALITY & NUDITY: 5/10
NOTE: Ridley Scott’s latest foray into science fiction is tense, entertaining… and more than a slightly disappointing. Given the spectacular wealth of material at hand, what’s most surprising about Prometheus is just how un-spectacular it really is: good, but not great, and certainly not in the same league as Alien or Blade Runner. To be fair, the special effects are brilliant, the cast is first-rate, and we’re treated to more than a few flourishes of creative brilliance. But in the end, even those flourishes can’t save the film from its own worst enemy: a convoluted story that leaves us with far too many questions and not enough answers; a story that tries to be “profound,” and ends up tripping over its own two feet in the process.

Good review; informative without giving anything away, haha. Personally, I liked the movie. I think the reason most people didn’t enjoy it much was because they were expecting all sorts of answers and explanations for everything, whereas I expected them to reveal next to nothing in the hopes of making a sequel.

    • I liked it, too – I just think it should’ve been better. :) I can see your point about expectations; it just seemed like Ridley Scott pulled a “bait-and-switch,” since the trailer strongly suggested that Prometheus would answer questions that fans of Alien (like myself) had been asking for years.

I have yet to see the other Alien movies but I might consider watching this on DVD. Although I do usually like Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba.
